Setter Saviours
Vinda
Vinda
Vinda has now been in foster for just over a month, and the progress she has made is something to be truly proud of. When she first arrived, she was a very scared little soul - everything overwhelmed her, and she was especially frightened of men. Slowly, gently, that is starting to change.
Vinda is one of five siblings born to a setter mum. Two were adopted years ago, one sibling was sadly lost by the kennel owners and is still being searched for, and one is still left behind. Vinda has waited far too long for her own chance.
She is around four years old and beautiful inside and out - shy, gentle, sensitive and incredibly sweet. She still has a way to go, but every small step forward feels huge. She recently managed her first proper full walk outside, meeting people and other dogs along the way and behaving perfectly throughout. She now walks well on the lead, although traffic and sudden noises still unsettle her, so she will need ongoing patience and reassurance.
In her foster home, Vinda is wonderful with all eight resident dogs and takes great confidence from being around them. She watches and learns from the pack, which has helped her enormously. She is now settled enough to sleep in the bedroom alongside her foster carer, and can be left home alone without any issues. She has also spent a full week around a six-year-old child and was perfect throughout - gentle, quiet and kind.
She is steadily building trust with men too. She used to run from her foster carer's partner but can now share a room with him, which is a huge step for her. Any man in her new home will need to be gentle and patient and allow her to build that trust at her own pace.
Housetraining is still a work in progress, as the outside world can feel scary to her, but there have been real breakthroughs and she is growing braver every week.
Vinda is looking for a calm, patient and understanding home where she can come out of her shell in her own time. She will need a confident, settled resident dog to help show her the ropes. She is not a ready made, confident dog - but underneath the fear is the most beautiful soul who truly wants to trust and belong.
Vinda is currently in foster in Surrey. After everything she has been through, it is finally her turn to be loved, understood and safe.
